Soft Start, Safety and Savings for EscalatorsEMS (European) have recently completed their testing of the EnviroStart TPMEC series of products on a variety of escalators operating in applications as varied as department stores, office blocks and moving walkways in airports.EnviroStart provided controlled start for the systems substantially reducing the mechanical stresses on the gear trains and clutches as well as allowing for the units to be started, if necessary, whilst people are on the beltway or steps. (Something that would not have been possible previously). The security features built into EnviroStart also mean that, short of a major mechanical failure of the drive system itself, should there be a fault within the escalator, instead of the shuddering and immediate stop currently experienced, the escalator will come to a controlled stop, this again providing safety for anyone “on board” at that time.During the course of extended testing substantial savings were also attested by an independent organisation who registered a minimum of 17% kW savings through a three month period providing a payback for the client of less than eighteen months in one case and better than one year in another. For a detailed report on tis application including a testimonial from ESB click here.
