Enviro+ Single Phase Air Conditioning Energy Management and Control System

The Enviro+ air conditioning control provides a cost effective energy and operational control system for any single phase air conditioning system up to 15,000 BTU, (15A).

The unit provides not only energy management of the compressor motor's consumption, using the well tried and tested technologies established within the Single Phase MEC, but adds to this by providing timer control to ensure that the system compressor, (the main energy consumer within any air conditioning system), is not running when not required, that dead bands are eliminated and

that conflicting energy wasting activities within an environment are eliminated; (such as having heating systems on at the same time as the AC is running or having the AC running when the ambient temperature is below a pre-defined threshold). Additional controls manage the compressor motor start to ensure a "soft start" which increases motor and compressor life dramatically, control of the condensor fan to eliminate operation when that fan is not required and also short re-start elimination which stops, usually older or less well maintained systems, from stopping and starting too frequently.

Primary benefits of the systems use are direct energy savings of 35% or more. (With proper time control in cases where systems have historically been left on continuously, savings of greater than 60% have been achieved).

Lifetime of air conditioning systems is also dramatically increased through utilisation of the inbuilt soft start and as a result of the fact that the compressor motor will run cooler. (Tests have shown that operational temperatures of the compressor drop by >10C using the Enviro+). Both of these features also reduce maintenance, and downtime due to breakdown which means that overall air conditioning systems are more reliable.

Typical Applications for Enviro+

A tertiary, but equally important benefit of the use of the Enviro+, is that the noise levels of all air conditioning systems is reduced by on average >5db. Systems running quieter in this way are less intrusive and, particularly in a domestic or small office environment, more pleasant to work with.

The Enviro+ unit is weatherproof and designed to be fitted externally adjacent to the compressor, condensor fan structure of a split AC system. (In many cases the unit will be able to be positioned within the compressor housing). Installation is simple, taking on average, no more than 30 minutes per unit from start of job to final commissioning.

We have designed the system to use all of the latest features available, commissioning and system status is all provided via an on-board USB - PC interface. The supplied system software

allowing easy control and set up of all features of the unit as well as providing basic diagnostics in the case of failure.

Applications for the Enviro+ extend beyond just those of Air Conditioning into any region of single phase application up to 15A where control of the operational time of the unit is going to provide benefit.

Applications such as bottle coolers in bars and cold drink vending machines can all be turned off at night or when the facility is not being used; careful control of the timing in this way will ensure that the goods are at the correct temperature during operational hours but not cooled when not required. Substantial savings can be achieved in this way over and above the savings to be gained from the energy control of the motor itself through energy optimization.
